The german band Kraftwerk were influential in the evolution of electronic music. They started to create what today is called techno, electro or ambient. Kraftwerk were founded in 1970 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider. They had their breakthrough with the album Autobahn which included a 22-minute track featuring a monotonous, motoric beat. In 1975 Wolfgang Flür and Karl Bartos joined Kraftwerk. Kraftwerk was one of the first popacts using pure electronic insturments. Most of the vocals were processed through a vocoder. For their album Computer World they used a Texas Instruments Language Translator to generate a synthetic speech. Not to speak, but to bleep.
